A dearth of beer is probably one of the biggest regrets of a Celiac, or so I'm told.
Whilst not Celiac, my lust of barley malt wreaks unspeakable insults on my digestive system. Living in Prague, the pilsner capital of the world, meant that I had developed an unshakable love of hoppy beers and a nearly constant discomfort.
I can still drink beer if I'm willing to suffer for days. I am. Maybe we're getting a bit too personal, hmm?
So, my approach to Bard's Tale is one of a real beer drinker, not that of a parched wanderer of the Celiac desert begging for the sip of an old flame.
That said, Bard's Tale is a fruity, dry beer made of sorghum mash, a gluten free grain popular in many African beers. If you're swilling Coors weekly, Bard's Tale doesn't have the taste of a 'classic' beer. That's not bad, but it the beer seems to be a bit maligned in some circles, and I don't agree.
Bard's Tale has an extremely satisfying mouthfeel and a crisp aftertaste. It's just hoppy enough for a flowery bitterness, and there's a hint of honey as the beer slides down your throat. From a beer drinker's standpoint, Bard's Tale is an interesting, summery beer, one that would be great guzzliing when cutting the lawn on a hot August day.
From a Celiac's point of view, Bard's Tale is a godsend; a charming brew that has all of the qualities of a good beer without the health effects of a gluten based brew. I highly recommend it.
